People often think that they need an extra high chair to be able to stand up easily. However, standing up from a chair that is too high (as for instance a barstool as shown in the picture above) is just as difficult as standing up from a chair that is too low. When the seat is too high, it is difficult for the feet to reach to the floor, so one needs a lot of arm strength to stand up with ease. It is also more difficult to assume various sitting postures (to shift position). Moreover, seats that are too high can pinch off the leg nerves causing the legs to go to sleep.
When the seat is too low, the back automatically bulges. You can check this by sitting down and raise the knee of one leg. You can feel your back starting to bulge automatically. Seats that are too low can also pinch off the intestines (bloated feeling, bad bowel movement).
Note: You will have the correct seat height when your legs are in a 90-degree angle to the floor. You must now be able to slide a flattened hand between the upper side of the hollow of your knee and the seat.
